An engine problem is where most people get taken advantage of, because it is the one repair nobody can check on their own. So we do it backwards from the usual shop: diagnosis first, a straight conversation second, and a wrench in hand only once you have said yes to a number you have already seen.
Sometimes that conversation ends with us telling you not to spend the money. A tired engine in an otherwise tired vehicle is not always worth a rebuild, and you deserve to hear that before you write a cheque, not after.
